What do you do? We design, test and manufacture high grade professional 3D printers.
What got you into 3D printing? When I was attending the university of Alabama in Huntsville, we had a project to build a robot. As I was designing and building, I came across 3D printing on-line. It just so happens my father, Tom, was researching 3D printing at the same time. We decided, after much reading that we should build our own to fit our needs, for personal use. As we went on, sending parts back and forth between Ohio and Alabama, we thought it would be a good idea to see if anyone else would pay for our design. So we went ahead and launched a Kickstarter campaign in July 2014. After the successful campaign (sold 79 printers) we began production. Tom, being six sigma black belt in lean manufacturing set up our assembly line, and I perfected the designs. The first year and half was difficult, as production was in Ohio, and I was attending school in Alabama. I moved back to Ohio in October 2015, and we were accepted into the YBI portfolio companies in February 2016. Since we began in 2014, we have sold over 250 printers. We are currently on our second generation of our Creatorbot 3D printer.
What are your future goals? We are always looking to add value to our product and provide the best possible quality and experience to our customers. We plan on adding on more official resellers in the near future, we currently have 4 on the east coast. We also plan on expanding our reach into universities, government, aeronautical companies, and automotive accessory manufactures. We're excited to see the growth that we have since we started just a few years ago, and we are so proud to say that we have the customers that we do. what is some information that you want people to know about your company? Every Creatorbot 3D printer is hand built by skilled technicians here in Youngstown, undergoing several quality control and endurance tests before our customers receive them. It is very important to my father and I the we build them by hand to ensure the quality, and the Youngstown business incubator has proven to be the perfect catalyst for that success. A major portion of our business can be attributed to simply being in the YBI.
What is an interesting fact about yourself? I served in the united states marine corps from 2004-2012 and served 3 deployments. Several years ago I was an avid motorcyclist, however I ended up selling my motorcycle last year. My personal goal is to buy another one soon as 3D Printerworks grows!
